Governor honors late Navajo Code Talker John Kinsel Sr.'s legacy

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a statement following the passing of Navajo Code Talker John Kinsel Sr. In her remarks, she emphasized the significant contributions of Kinsel and his role in World War II.

“John Kinsel’s service as a Marine and Navajo Code Talker represented the values and valor that helped the U.S., and its allies prevail in World War II," Gov. Lujan Grisham stated. She highlighted his "extraordinary courage and profound patriotism" both as a warrior and protector of Navajo heritage.

The governor called upon New Mexicans and Americans to reflect on Kinsel's bravery and sacrifice, expressing condolences to his family during this time. “Manny and I extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Kinsel’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” she said.

Additionally, Gov. Lujan Grisham noted the significance of the developing Navajo Code Talkers Museum, which aims to honor individuals like John Kinsel by preserving their stories for future generations.

"As we honor Mr. Kinsel’s life and contributions, it is also an opportunity to recognize the importance of the Navajo Code Talkers Museum," she mentioned, indicating that this museum will ensure understanding of their vital historical role.
