The City Council of Las Cruces is scheduled to vote on legislative priorities for 2025 at a meeting on December 2. Concerns have been raised regarding the proposed list of legislation to be supported by the council. Residents are encouraged to express their views through emails, calls, or by attending the meeting to make public comments.

Sarah Smith, the first vice chair of CCIA, has highlighted that the list lacks some crucial crime-related legislative priorities put forward by LCPD Chief Story. Additionally, there is opposition to the inclusion of support for Paid Family Medical Leave in the resolution. Critics argue that this could adversely affect small businesses in New Mexico and increase costs for goods and services.

Smith urges residents to communicate respectfully with City Council members and stresses that individual emails may elicit more responses than group emails. The meeting will take place at City Hall, located at 700 N Main St, Las Cruces, at 1 p.m.

Residents are advised to personalize their messages rather than copying suggested talking points verbatim. This approach is expected to enhance the impact of their communications.
