Many repeat offenders in Las Cruces are deemed "incompetent" to stand trial and are subsequently released back into the community, where they continue to commit crimes. There is a call for the New Mexico legislature to enact laws that would direct these "incompetent" offenders into treatment programs for the benefit of all.
