Northwest Naturals has announced a voluntary recall of specific two-pound packages of Feline Turkey Recipe Raw Frozen pet food. The decision follows the detection of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus in the product. Pet owners are advised to verify "best if used by" dates on their packaging.

The affected products have "best if used by" dates of May 21, 2026, and June 23, 2026. Distribution occurred across several U.S. states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington. Additionally, distribution extended to British Columbia in Canada and potentially New Mexico due to Northwest Naturals' presence in retail locations there.

Testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Veterinary Services Laboratories and Oregon State University's Oregon Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory confirmed HPAI presence in both the pet food and a domestic cat from Washington County, Oregon that consumed it.

Currently, no cases of HPAI have been reported in domestic cats within New Mexico.

Consumers who possess the recalled product should stop using it immediately. Veterinary consultation is recommended if pets exhibit symptoms such as fever, lethargy, low appetite, inflamed eyes or discharge from eyes and nose. Other symptoms may include difficulty breathing or neurological issues like tremors or seizures.
