Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed her condolences following the death of Dr. Harold Bailey, a leader in the NAACP.

Dr. Bailey played a significant role in endorsing the Elizabeth Whitefield End of Life Option Act through the Albuquerque NAACP in 2020. His efforts focused on expanding healthcare options and addressing educational and access disparities.

"Dr. Bailey’s belief in empowering communities, particularly communities of color, in making informed decisions about their values and end-of-life care was instrumental in the Act’s eventual passage, which I was honored to sign into law in 2021," stated Gov. Lujan Grisham.

She further acknowledged his advocacy and dedication to dignity and choice for all individuals: "I thank him for his advocacy and commitment to ensuring dignity and choice for all."

The governor concluded with a message of sympathy: "His legacy will continue to inspire us. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were impacted by his work."
