Washington, D.C. –  On June 26, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Chair of the Subcommittee on Communications, Media, and Broadband, announced $675,372,311 in funding to expand high-speed internet access in New Mexico. This funding from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) was announced as part of the Biden administration’s $42 billion effort to connect an estimated 8.5 million families and small businesses to a reliable internet connection.

The $675 million in funding through the Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program will help close the digital divide in rural communities and enable more New Mexico communities to participate in the digital economy.

“Today’s digital era has made clear that an internet connection is a necessity for New Mexico families. It’s needed in order for students to complete their studies, for families to access work and telehealth services, and for small businesses to get ahead,” said Luján. “That’s why I’m proud to work alongside NTIA to deliver this pivotal investment of $675 million to help deliver a reliable internet connection to families across New Mexico. This investment will help close the digital divide in our rural communities and allow more New Mexicans the opportunity to fully participate in the online economy.”
