Read this amazing story and consider volunteering with GACC member Red Cross NM.
Some people are just born to help others. “I’ve always wanted to be a Red Cross volunteer,” said Michele (Mickey) Fellows. “I used to volunteer for the Red Cross as a kid. It’s always been in me to want to help. Now that both of my children are on their own, it’s now my time and joining the Red Cross was one of the first things I wanted to do. I joined 2 years ago. This is my first time deploying. I am involved as a DAT (Disaster Assessment Team), but with Covid, this is the first time I have been out in the field. I just love this. I have lots of time to visit people. It is so enlightening. I wanted to try out different positions. So far, I have greeted people at the gate as they arrive, I have helped with check-in and I have worked in the kitchen. I try to time my day so I can sit and visit with the clients during mealtime. I think the Red Cross is amazing and still can’t believe all they can get done.”
