Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has expressed her disappointment following the results of Tuesday's presidential election, where Donald Trump emerged victorious. In a statement released on Wednesday, she acknowledged her concerns about Trump's presidency but emphasized respect for the voters' decision.
"While I am disappointed in the result of Tuesday’s presidential election and deeply concerned about another Donald Trump presidency, I respect the will of American voters and accept the outcome of Tuesday’s election," Gov. Lujan Grisham stated. She urged Americans not to let the results affect their dedication to democratic institutions and human rights.
The Governor highlighted New Mexico's support for Kamala Harris in the election and praised Democrats for maintaining majorities in both state and federal legislative seats. "I am proud that so many New Mexicans turned out to vote and delivered our state for Kamala Harris," she said, expressing gratitude for Democratic successes.
Looking ahead, Gov. Lujan Grisham pledged to continue advocating for families, children, economic opportunities, democracy, and human rights over the next two years. Reflecting on progress made during her tenure, she noted achievements in childcare, healthcare, economic growth, and clean energy initiatives.
"Over the past six years, we’ve made tremendous progress in New Mexico on challenges ranging from childcare to healthcare to economic growth to clean energy," she remarked. She called on all New Mexicans to unite across party lines to further address shared challenges: "With the election in the rear-view mirror, I encourage all New Mexicans––regardless of political affiliation––to come together and work in a bipartisan way."
