New Mexico Republicans criticized Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) on two fronts, accusing her of enacting some of the most restrictive regulations in the country regarding COVID-19 with no plan to end a spike in the number of confirmed cases of the virus.

“The governor has devastated the economy in New Mexico with her forced economic shutdown, yet the recent COVID cases continue to rise,” House Republican Whip Rod Montoya said, according to the  New Mexico House GOP website. “At what point does she stop blaming the people of this state, who are under her restrictions, and when do we start holding the governor accountable for her mismanagement of this crisis?”

Montoya was joined by House Republican Leader Jim Townsend in calling for Grisham to stop blaming President Donald Trump for the pandemic and to take responsibility for the state’s leading the country in virus spread over the past month and into October.

“It is time for a different approach that protects our most vulnerable while allowing our kids to go back to school and to allow small businesses to open,” Townsend said. “The governor is solely responsible for the economic suffering and disenfranchisement of New Mexicans, not the president.”

The GOP report said that since March, restrictions put in place by Grisham has cost 100,000 residents their jobs and that thousands of businesses have closed as well as schools.

With little progress on the pandemic to show for it.

Instead the two Republicans indicated Grisham has sought to blame Trump in what amounted to a smokescreen.
