The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a prominent advocacy group for small businesses, has released its biennial voting record for New Mexico's 56th Legislature. This record assesses legislators based on their votes on six critical issues that affect small businesses, such as employer mandates and regulatory burdens.
Thirty-two lawmakers achieved a perfect score of 100% in this voting record. Among them are twelve Senators and twenty House Representatives.
Jason Espinoza, the NFIB State Director, commented on the challenges facing small businesses: “Each year, the Legislature considers proposals that would devastate family-owned small businesses here in New Mexico. As inflation continues to pose a serious challenge to Main Street, our members are grateful to the lawmakers who stood firm against harmful proposals that would dramatically increase the cost of doing business here in our state.”
It is important to note that the NFIB Voting Record does not encompass every aspect of a legislator's decision-making process nor does it provide a complete profile of any lawmaker. The 2024 Voting Record from NFIB includes analysis based on eleven key votes that are significant to small business owners.
