Last week, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) New Mexico State Director Jason Espinoza organized the 2025 Small Business Day in Santa Fe. The event provided an opportunity for local business owners to connect with peers, engage with lawmakers, and receive updates on the ongoing Legislative Session.
Participants at the event expressed concerns to lawmakers about costly mandates like Paid Family Medical Leave, which they believe could hinder their ability to maintain operations. "Having our members here at the Roundhouse to share their stories always makes a big impact," said Espinoza. "It’s important for lawmakers to understand how the policy proposals they’re considering can affect small business owners and their employees. We will continue working with the Legislature on pro-growth reforms that make it easier to own and operate a business in New Mexico."
For those who missed the event, NFIB encourages downloading the NFIB Engage App. The app provides updates on legislation impacting businesses at both state and federal levels and offers opportunities for involvement.
The app features include action alerts about relevant legislation, opportunities to contact lawmakers, invitations to NFIB events and webinars, and news on NFIB's advocacy efforts for small businesses across states.
Current users are reminded to update their member profiles within the app for a personalized experience. More information is available through the NFIB Advocacy Center.
