State officials in New Mexico have reported no known cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in domestic cats within the region. Despite this, pet owners who may possess the affected cat food are urged to verify the lot code on their product packages. The specific lot code under recall is Lot. 11152026.
The product being recalled is the Savage Cat Frozen Cat Food, available in two sizes: **84 oz.** packaged in boxes containing **28** 3 oz. plastic packets, and **21 oz.** packaged in boxes containing **seven** 3 oz. plastic packets.
Savage Pet has initiated a voluntary recall following a positive HPAI test in one of their products. “Pet owners in New Mexico are advised to check lot numbers,” the company stated. Officials emphasize that consumers who have purchased the recalled product should stop feeding it to their pets immediately. Should any signs of illness arise, consulting a veterinarian is advised.
Clinical signs of HPAI infection in domestic cats can manifest through a range of symptoms including fever, lethargy, reduced appetite, eye inflammation, ocular and nasal discharge, respiratory difficulties, and neurological disturbances such as tremors, seizures, coordination issues, or blindness.
