The City of Las Cruces is seeking public input on two crime-related ordinances proposed by Chief Story, which will be voted on by the City Council on August 5. Residents are encouraged to email, call, or attend the meeting to make public comments.

The City Council meeting will take place on Monday, August 5, and the Mayor is expected to allow public comments. Typically, three minutes are allocated for each comment; however, attendees should be prepared to shorten their remarks if many people wish to speak.

Public comments and emails will be most effective if they relate to personal experiences with issues such as shopping carts or panhandling. The meeting agenda includes several items, so those planning to speak should be prepared for a potentially lengthy session.

A public comment period usually occurs near the beginning of the meeting. However, the Mayor will not permit discussion of agenda items during this time and will instead ask speakers to wait until their specific item is addressed.

Residents are urged to send individual emails rather than group emails for a better chance of receiving responses. Respectful communication is emphasized for maximum positive impact.
