Las Cruces residents Sarah Smith, Julia Ruiz, and Juan Garcia have issued a call to action, urging the community to support two new ordinances aimed at addressing the crime situation in the city. The proposed ordinances, focusing on shopping cart containment and retrieval, as well as solicitation, have been put forward by the Las Cruces police department.

According to the trio, "Dear Las Crucens, We need your help! Two new ordinances are being proposed to help with the crime situation in Las Cruces." The ordinances will be discussed exclusively at a work session scheduled for Monday, April 29. They emphasized, "The ordinances are the ONLY items on the agenda for this meeting."

The community is encouraged to participate in the upcoming City Council work session to voice their opinions and provide feedback on the proposed ordinances. While the City Council will not be voting on the ordinances during the work session, public comments and engagement are crucial in shaping the discussion. The work session, set to take place on Monday, April 29 at 1 pm at City Hall, 700 N Main St, Las Cruces, will provide an opportunity for residents to share their personal experiences related to issues concerning shopping carts or soliciting.

In their plea for community involvement, Sarah Smith, Julia Ruiz, and Juan Garcia stressed the importance of individualized communication, stating, "Make sure to send individual emails instead of one group email if you want a response." They also highlighted the significance of respectful and constructive dialogue for a more effective impact.

It is recommended that residents email or call the City Council members to express their support and attend the City Council work session to demonstrate solidarity for the proposed ordinances. The trio emphasized, "We need as many people as possible to attend. Even if you are not going to speak, please attend to show support for these ordinances."

Las Cruces residents are urged to engage with the City Council on this critical issue and contribute to the collective effort to address crime in the community.
