6.5% of citizens in New Mexico unemployed in 2021

New Mexico's unemployment rate hit 6.5% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That's 63,136 people out of the 2,109,366 living in New Mexico at the time, according to data U.S. Census Bureau data obtained on Oct. 26, 2023.

The unemployment rate in New Mexico has remained fairly stable compared to the 6.5% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in New Mexico was greater than the national unemployment rate of 5.5%.

Of the 901,324 people who had a job during that time, 11,896 were employed in the Armed Forces and 889,428 belonged to the civilian labor force.
