New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed her condolences on the passing of Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88. In an official statement, she highlighted his significant impact, stating, "Today, Manny and I join the people of New Mexico and the global community in mourning the loss of Pope Francis..."

Pope Francis, known for advocating compassion, dignity, and grace, was particularly revered for his call for "a humble, more merciful and inclusive church." These values were emphasized by Governor Lujan Grisham as aligning closely with those held by the people of New Mexico.

Governor Lujan Grisham encouraged all New Mexicans to reflect on Pope Francis's legacy of compassion, urging them to contribute towards building "a more just, more merciful world" in his memory. To commemorate his life and legacy, flags throughout New Mexico will be flown at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment.
