FOIA Request to Union County NM Clerk & Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In a bid to uphold transparency and accountability in the upcoming elections, we at Enchantment State News have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Union County NM Clerk & Election Division. The request was made under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act, 14-2-1 NMSA 1978 et seq., with preference for an electronic format response.
The records requested include a comprehensive list of all candidates running in the forthcoming election. Specifically, we asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; party affiliation; and all contact information including address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We await a positive response from the Union County NM Clerk & Election Division as we continue our mission of ensuring that citizens stay informed about their local government affairs.
