A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Chaves County NM Clerk & Election Division regarding the candidates running in the upcoming spring election. The request was made by Enchantment State News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, on February 5, 2025.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all candidates that are running for this upcoming election. The details requested for each candidate include their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to these details, Enchantment State News also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As stated in the request, Enchantment State News believes access to public records is essential in fulfilling its professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given its role in disseminating information, it has requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
