A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Los Alamos County NM Clerk & Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Enchantment State News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we sought information under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act, 14-2-1 NMSA 1978 et seq., about all candidates running in the upcoming election. We requested this information preferably in an electronic format for ease of use and dissemination.
Specifically, we asked for a list that includes each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation. In addition to these details, we also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to such public records is crucial for us at Enchantment State News. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
