The Biden-Harris Administration has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for New Mexico, following a request from Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. This decision will unlock federal funds to aid recovery efforts in Chaves County, which experienced significant flooding earlier this month.

Governor Lujan Grisham expressed gratitude for the swift response from the administration. "The impacts of this historic flooding have been devastating for this community, and I am grateful to the Biden-Harris administration for acting quickly to provide support," she stated. "We must work together and do all we can to assist Chaves County in their recovery."

The declaration will facilitate assistance for individuals, households, and businesses affected by the flooding in Chaves County. Public assistance will also be available for emergency work and repairs or replacements of disaster-damaged facilities. This includes debris removal, emergency protective measures, and direct federal assistance.

Residents of Chaves County impacted by the flooding between October 18-21 will soon be able to apply for assistance from FEMA. For more information on resources, individuals can contact the state disaster response and recovery hotline at 1-833-663-4736 or visit dhsem.nm.gov/chavesflooding.
