Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Chair of the Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Media, and Broadband, issued the following statement after President Biden renominated FCC Commissioners Geoffrey Starks and Brendan Carr, and nominated Anna Gomez to serve as the fifth Commissioner:

“As Chair of the Subcommittee on Communications, Media, and Broadband, I have worked closely with Commissioners Starks and Carr to bridge the digital divide and advance innovation. They have served on the FCC with distinction, and I am glad that President Biden renominated these leaders to continue their service.

“With decades of experience in public service handling broadband, telecommunications, and other issues, Anna Gomez is a deeply qualified nominee to serve as an FCC Commissioner. Her experience at the White House, U.S. Senate, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and the FCC will allow her to hit the ground running once confirmed. She will also bring a much-needed voice and perspective to the FCC as the only Latina on the Commission.

“It’s been far too long since the FCC had a full five-member Commission, and I urge my colleagues in the Senate to move forward with these nominations without delay. I look forward to working with Ms. Gomez, and the rest of the FCC, to move America toward 100% connectivity.”
