GACC member Pattern Energy New Mexico working with communities to create long-lasting partnerships that benefit all New Mexicans.
While developing Western Spirit Wind, we conducted environmental studies on around 500,000 acres of land. This entailed thousands of hours of biological field surveys and extensive water and cultural resource surveys.
Western Spirit Wind is located in an area with a rich archaeological record spanning thousands of years, and we wanted to design our projects to have the smallest possible impact to these resources. Based on the archaeological surveys conducted, we worked with our engineering and construction team to avoid and minimize impacts to all identified cultural sites on private and state land.
While this process posed unique challenges, this collaborative and iterative exercise resulted in a project that has gone above and beyond to respect New Mexico’s cultural resources.
