City of Rio Rancho issued the following announcement on May 19. 

Per Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s May 15, 2020 modified emergency health order, which eases restrictions on businesses and organizations, some City of Rio Rancho facilities will be reopening to the public in a limited capacity beginning Tuesday, May 26, 2020. While some facilities will be open, citizens are encouraged to limit their visits and continue using City services, such as making Utilities payments, electronically or by phone. Citizens entering or being present inside any City facility are required to wear a face covering and maintain six feet of distance between themselves and others. It is still imperative that citizens continue to stay home as much as possible. Congregating in groups remains unsafe and is still prohibited. If citizens must go out, maintain a physical distance of six feet from others and wear a face covering.

While the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will not be offering traditional summer camp programming this year, youth micro-programs are being developed and more information will be released at a later date. Pursuant to the Governor’s May 15 public health order, all swimming pools must remain closed until May 31, with further guidance, including operations, provided from the State. As such, the City’s three outdoor pools will not open this summer; however, and depending on future State emergency health orders, the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center is targeting an early June opening with limitations on capacity and operations.

“We have made a lot of progress over the past couple of months to help guide us in the direction of a safe and positive outcome,” said Mayor Gregg Hull. “While we are not out of the woods yet, and these plans are subject to change, it is because of our community’s responsible actions and behaviors that we have helped flatten the curve of COVID-19 and are able to begin the process of planning for our City to reopen. Subsequent phases of reopening will rely heavily on the success and progress we make in continuing to lessen the effects of this pandemic.”

Below is information about the reopening of facility operations:

• Animal Resource Center
  • Adoptions by appointment only until further notice. Please call (505) 891-5075.
• City Hall
  • All departments in City Hall open to the public as of Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
• Motor Vehicle Division (Rio Rancho Location)
  • New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division offices to reopen on an appointment-only basis on Monday, June 1, 2020, pursuant to State guidelines. More information will be provided in the near future.
• Municipal Court
  • Open in a limited capacity on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
  • Hearings will be limited to no more than 15 individuals in the Court room at any given time until permission to allow more is authorized.
• Rio Rancho Aquatic Center
  • Reopening tentatively scheduled for early June. More information will be provided in the near future.
• Rio Rancho Public Libraries
  • Offering hold pick up of library items by appointment only from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, until further notice.
  • Those wishing to place a library item on hold may do so by visiting www.rrnm.gov/libraries or by calling the libraries between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In an effort to reduce the pressure on the healthcare system, anyone experiencing mild COVID-19 symptoms should call the New Mexico Department of Health’s Coronavirus Hotline at 1-855-600-3453, rather than calling 9-1-1 or visiting the emergency room. Anyone experiencing more severe or life-threatening symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
