As of this morning, liquor stores and payday advance businesses in New Mexico were no longer considered essential companies and were among the ranks of nonessential businesses ordered to close by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.
The overall closure of nonessential companies has also been pushed out to April 30.
For now, grocery stores, pharmacies and retail companies that provide household goods can keep their doors open, but only 20% of the typical capacity can be inside the store at any given time. For customers who are waiting their turn in line, the 6-feet distance rule still applies.
Hotels and motels have also been ordered to keep their capacity at 75% less than usual.
Grisham warned that the attempt to implement these orders will be heightened.
“These measures will help us prevent a sudden spike in infections that would overwhelm our healthcare system," she said. "This virus is still spreading, and we must remain vigilant about physical distancing from one another. And we will ramp up enforcement of non-compliance.”
