Albuquerque, NM – This morning, 53-year-old Mario “Troy” Colangelo was arrested by the New Mexico Department of Justice’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Division for possession and distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) of children under the age of 13 (NMSA 1978, Sections 30-6A-3(A), (C)).

During the investigation, it was discovered that Colangelo, a registered sex offender with a long criminal history, including five previous arrests for possession of and/or distributing CSAM, legally changed his name from Troy Shelby to Mario Colangelo after he moved to New Mexico from West Virginia.

The case was brought as part of the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force’s mission to locate, track, and capture internet child sexual predators on internet child pornographers in New Mexico.

The New Mexico ICAC Task Force, funded by an Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) grant administered by the New Mexico Department of Justice, involves over 90 federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies.

Anyone with information relating to suspected child predators is encouraged to contact federal or local law enforcement or make an anonymous report through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, (http://www.missingkids.org/cybertipline) or by calling 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).
