Las Cruces residents are being urged to get involved in the push for two new crime ordinances that are currently under consideration by the city. Sarah Smith, Julia Ruiz, and Juan Garcia have reached out to the community, stating, "Dear Las Crucens, We need your help! Two new ordinances are being proposed to help with the crime situation in Las Cruces."

The proposed ordinances aim to address specific issues within the city. One of the ordinances focuses on shopping cart containment and retrieval, while the other pertains to solicitation. Las Cruces Police Department has been actively involved in drafting these ordinances to combat the crime situation in the area.

A work session is scheduled for Monday, April 29, where these ordinances will be discussed. The public is encouraged to participate in this session to provide input and feedback. It is important to note that no voting on the ordinances will take place during this work session, as the City Council is only authorized to vote on ordinances during City Council meetings.

Residents are encouraged to share their personal experiences and insights related to shopping carts or soliciting to make their comments more impactful. The organizers have provided a list of potential talking points for those who wish to address the City Council during the work session.

To further amplify their voices, residents are urged to email or call the City Council members directly. Contact information for all council members has been provided for easy access. Additionally, a special City Council work session is scheduled for Monday, April 29, at 1 pm at City Hall on 700 N Main St, Las Cruces.

"We need as many people as possible to attend. Even if you are not going to speak, please attend to show support for these ordinances," the organizers emphasized. The community's presence at the work session is crucial in demonstrating solidarity and backing for the proposed ordinances.

The organizers have stressed the importance of crafting individualized communications rather than group emails for a more significant impact. They have also urged residents to be respectful in their interactions to ensure a positive influence on the decision-making process within the City Council.

Las Cruces residents are encouraged to participate actively in this civic engagement opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of public safety and crime prevention measures in their community.
