Over 700 apprehensions in one weekend throughout Rio Grande Valley border sector

Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez recently updated the public on enforcement activities via a post on social media platform X. The report highlighted over 700 migrant apprehensions, seven human smuggling cases, and other significant actions.

According to a March 18 post by Chavez, agents from the Rio Grande Valley sector of the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) apprehended 712 migrants who had crossed the border illegally and dealt with seven human smuggling cases.

Chavez continued her update in a subsequent post on the same platform, revealing that agents had conducted seven narcotics seizures, made contact with 11 human smugglers, and confiscated five firearms. She also provided details about traffic inspections at various checkpoints: Falfurrias saw 41.7K vehicles; Kingsville, 35.5K vehicles; and Fort Brown, 6.7K vehicles.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector is one of nine border patrol sectors along the southwest border. According to information from the Customs and Border Protection website dedicated to this sector, it operates six stations on the border, several traffic checkpoints, and a single coastal station around the clock.

The U.S. Border Patrol is a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Homeland Security tasked with preventing terrorists and their weapons from entering the United States. Its mission also includes stopping illegal entry of people and contraband into the country. Agents from this agency patrol nearly 6,000 miles of border between Mexico and Canada, as well as more than 2,000 miles of coastal waters stretching from Florida to Puerto Rico. Established in 1924, it operates in 328 ports of entry and protects 7,000 miles of land borders along with 95,000 miles of maritime borders.
