The Legislative Finance Committee received a revenue outlook report for New Mexico's state budget, according to a press release from the New Mexico House GOP.
The state is facing a severely constrained budget as a result of the economic hardships that the past few months have brought upon the state and the rest of the country. Lockdowns to slow the spread of the virus imposed by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has stifled the state economy.
Though the latest estimates are more favorable than the estimates being created earlier in the year, the situation is still less than ideal. It's clear that the House GOP sees these shortcomings as a direct result of what they perceive to be unnecessary actions by the Democrats in the state.
“The problems New Mexicans face have not gone away, in fact, they are compounded by the shutdown of our state economy, the burden of record unemployment, and thousands of disillusioned New Mexicans who cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel," House Republican Whip Rod Montoya said.
Politicians in the state will now have to collaborate on a budget that operates within the present constraints, but still is able to help businesses in the state bounce back from what has been a very trying year for the economy.
