Wyatt DeMulling has been named assistant coach for the University of New Mexico Men’s Tennis program, head coach Rob Bareford announced on May 28. DeMulling most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Oregon, where he worked under head coach Nils Schyllander and associate head coach Arron Spencer during a season in which the Ducks finished with a 14-11 record.
“We’re happy to announce the hiring of Wyatt DeMulling,” said Bareford. “With his playing and coaching experience, we are confident he will help elevate the Men’s Tennis program in all facets.”
DeMulling is originally from Seattle, Washington, and played junior-level national tournaments at the Boeing Employees Tennis Club in Kent. He competed collegiately at Boise State, earning All-Mountain West honors in singles in 2020 and recording 65 singles victories while playing as high as No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. He also spent one season at Irvine Valley College, where he earned ITA All-America honors in both singles and doubles.
After his college career, DeMulling played professionally on tour from 2021 to 2023 and achieved an ATP ranking of 1844. His coaching career began after his time on tour when he traveled with ATP professional Lawrence Sciglitano, focusing on match strategy, analysis, mental preparation, and helping Sciglitano win a doubles title in 2023. He later returned to BETC to contribute to its high-performance program for aspiring college players.
Schyllander said of DeMulling, “In Wyatt DeMulling, the Lobos have hired a very dedicated and up-and-coming coach that puts the student-athlete first. After a year in the Big Ten, he has a complete understanding of college tennis at the highest level. Wyatt will have an immediate impact on the Lobo program and the student-athlete experience.”
