A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the McKinley County NM Clerk & Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Enchantment State News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we sought information under the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act, specifically asking for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The details requested include the candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
Additionally, we asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
