Along with other Republicans who said that the $1.9 trillion relief package of the Biden administration fails to address specific concerns, Yvette Herrell, representative for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District, said that “any pandemic relief bill should be targeted, temporary, and tied to COVID.”
Herrell (R-N.M.) offered an amendment to ensure fair distribution of COVID-19 relief for small rural communities but was voted down.
Rep James Comer (R-Ky.) released a statement after the House Committee on Oversight and Reform advanced the Democrats' legislation without a single Republican amendment.
“The Democrats’ partisan legislation does not deliver the solutions America needs and enables locked-down states to keep small businesses, schools, and churches closed,” Corner said. “Rather than taking action to get unemployed Americans back to work and help small businesses keep their doors open, Democrats are providing a massive bailout to blue states while allowing their job-killing lockdowns to go unchecked.”
Herrell was also in support of Rep. Byron Donalds' (R-Fla.) proposed amendment which would have ensured that “Americans are prioritized for vaccine distribution, not illegal immigrants.” But this proposal was also rejected.
“Republicans offered several amendments that would provide accountability and transparency while helping spur economic growth, boost job creation, and get students back in classrooms. The Democrats opposed every single one,” the release also stated.
