The New Mexico GOP reported that a recent poll does not give an accurate prediction of the November elections.

The presidential poll which was published by Albuquerque Journal and carried out by Research & Polling Inc., allegedly will not be an accurate reflection of the November elections because of when the poll was carried out.

In fact, the winner of the 2016 election was not able to be decided until the final two weeks, with the real call on the outcome not arriving until Election Day.

Nationally televised presidential debates as well as the televised advertisements are much more a part of the common American’s life after Labor Day, not before.

While a late summer poll may show some trends, New Mexico’s over 283,000 unaffiliated voters did not participate in the Primary Elections, meaning there is a lot of information that cannot be predicted with accuracy this early on.

The New Mexico’s Secretary of State’s Office reported that Democrats make up 45.6% of voters while Republicans make up 31% and unaffiliated or Independent voters comprise 21.6% of the voting population.

It is unclear if the poll sampled a higher number of Democrats who were registered voters than the percentages that are recorded as the current rate.

The chairman of the Republican Party of New Mexico Steve Pearce said that this poll leaves much to be desired in terms of information.

“The preliminary findings may be suspect because there are so many undecided and unaffiliated voters who will make decisions closer to Election Day,” Pearce said in a press release. “This poll leaves doubt, and there’s little credence regarding how registered voters will respond this fall.”

Pearce concluded, stating that the presidential campaign for President Donald Trump was strong in New Mexico and that thousands of new Republican voters had been registered in the recent past.

“We are ready to turn the state red,” Pearce said.
