A Shiprock resident, Larence Cambridge, was sentenced to 102 months in federal prison following a drive-by shooting incident that took place on January 9, 2025. According to court records, Cambridge, 35 and a member of the Navajo Nation, fired multiple shots at another vehicle while traveling as a passenger in his own car along U.S. Highway 64 near Shiprock, New Mexico. The attack resulted in serious injuries to one of the vehicle’s occupants before Cambridge fled the scene.
Upon completion of his prison sentence, Cambridge will face five years of supervised release and is required to pay over $13,000 in restitution. In the federal system, there is no parole.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Philip Russell, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office.
The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Police Department and Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco handled prosecution for this case.
