The City of Santa Fe announced on May 28 the launch of a ‘Fare Free Sundays’ pilot program for the Santa Fe Trails transit system, allowing all riders to use bus services free of charge on Sundays from June 7 through September 6.
The initiative aims to encourage public transit use, improve accessibility to community events and local businesses, and provide both residents and visitors with an affordable transportation option during the summer months. Under this pilot program, passengers will not be required to pay fares on any Santa Fe Trails fixed-route buses operating on Sundays throughout the designated period.
Mayor Michael Garcia said the program reflects the city’s commitment to expanding transportation access and supporting the community. ‘Fare Free Sundays is an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to experience the convenience of public transit while reducing transportation costs and encouraging more sustainable travel throughout Santa Fe,’ Garcia said.
City officials plan to monitor ridership numbers and collect community feedback during the pilot period to evaluate its effectiveness. The results will help determine whether similar or expanded initiatives may be implemented in future transit planning.
