The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is seeking public input on the proposed Amendment 8 to its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for federal fiscal years 2024–2029. The STIP serves as the department’s short-term planning document for federally funded highway projects and was first implemented on October 1, 2023.
According to NMDOT, the program is developed through a process that includes federally required performance measures, national planning goals, and alignment with the department’s long-range plans. This approach aims to select projects that support NMDOT’s vision and address various transportation needs across New Mexico.
The first four years of the STIP must adhere to budget constraints, while the final two years are used for planning larger corridor projects. The six-year program features multi-modal projects funded by federal, state, local, and private sources. It also covers initiatives in areas such as National Parks, National Forests, Indian Reservations, and those considered regionally significant due to high public interest or air quality impacts.
The latest amendment is available for review until September 19, 2025. Public comments can be submitted via the eSTIP Amendment tab by project. Interested individuals can access detailed project lists by navigating through each district’s “Amendments” tab and selecting “Formal Amendment 8.” To provide feedback on specific projects, users may click on control numbers which open an email submission box.
