The Powerball jackpot for the upcoming drawing on Saturday, August 30, 2025, has reached an estimated $950 million. The cash value of the prize is estimated at $428.9 million.
This amount makes it the sixth-largest Powerball jackpot in U.S. history and the largest since April 2024. Previous record jackpots include a $2.04 billion prize won in California in November 2022 and a $1.765 billion jackpot also claimed in California in October 2023.
If a New Mexico player wins this weekend’s drawing, it would mark the sixth time that someone from the state has won the Powerball jackpot and would be the largest ever won in New Mexico.
New Mexico Lottery CEO David Barden commented on the rising interest: “We are excited to see player excitement grow with the jackpot. Ticket sales fund scholarships, and we are grateful to our players and retailers who help raise these funds for New Mexico students.”
Barden also reminded participants about responsible play: “It only takes one ticket for your chance to win. Please remember that Lottery games should be just for fun.”
Players in New Mexico have until 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday to purchase tickets for this draw.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play, with optional add-ons available for an extra fee. The Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times for an additional dollar per play, while Double Play offers another chance to win up to $10 million after each regular drawing.
Tickets are sold across 45 states as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of all proceeds from ticket sales remain within the jurisdiction where they were purchased. Drawings take place live from Tallahassee, Florida, and are streamed online at Powerball.com.
Since its inception in 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has contributed over $1.08 billion toward education funding in the state, helping more than 155,000 students attend college through Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
