The Powerball jackpot for the Saturday, September 6, 2025 drawing has been increased to an estimated $1.8 billion, with a cash value of $826.4 million. This amount marks the second-largest lottery prize in United States history.

The top ten largest Powerball jackpots include a record $2.04 billion won in California on November 7, 2022. The current estimated jackpot is followed by previous large prizes such as $1.765 billion (October 11, 2023) and $1.586 billion (January 13, 2016), among others.

Since June 1, 2025, when the latest runup began, New Mexico players have collected over $2.09 million in prizes from Powerball games. Recent winnings in the state include one prize of $150,000, one of $100,000 and nine prizes of $50,000 each.

David Barden, CEO of the New Mexico Lottery, said: “We are thrilled to see the excitement about this jackpot with our players, and even more excited to see the difference a jackpot like this can make for our beneficiaries. As ticket sales increase, so do funds for Legislative Lottery Scholarships.”

He also advised responsible play: “As exciting as this jackpot is, please remember to play responsibly and only play what you can afford. Remember, it only takes one ticket for a chance to win.”

If a player in New Mexico wins Saturday’s draw, it will be the sixth time that someone from the state has claimed a Powerball jackpot—and it would be the largest ever won there.

Tickets for Saturday’s draw may be purchased until 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time on September 6.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and offer two optional add-ons: Power Play increases non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times for an extra dollar; Double Play provides another chance at winning up to $10 million after each regular drawing for an additional dollar per play. Drawings are held three times weekly—Monday, Wednesday and Saturday—and are broadcast live from Florida and streamed online at https://www.powerball.com/.

Powerball tickets are available in most U.S. states plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands; over half of all proceeds remain within each jurisdiction where tickets are sold.

Since its inception in 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has contributed more than $1.08 billion toward education funding through Legislative Lottery Scholarships—helping over 155,000 students attend college across the state.
