The estimated Powerball jackpot for the upcoming Saturday, September 6, 2025 drawing has reached $1.7 billion, with a cash value of $770.3 million. This makes it the third-largest lottery jackpot in United States history.

According to Powerball records, only two jackpots have surpassed this amount: a $2.04 billion prize won in California on November 7, 2022 and a $1.765 billion prize also claimed in California on October 11, 2023.

Since June 1, 2025, New Mexico players have collected over $2.09 million in prizes during this runup to the current jackpot level. Notable wins include one ticket worth $150,000, another for $100,000 and nine tickets each valued at $50,000.

New Mexico Lottery CEO David Barden issued a reminder to play responsibly: “Lottery games are games of chance. Please keep it fun and only play what you can afford. You only need one ticket for a chance to win.”

If the winning ticket is sold in New Mexico this weekend, it will mark the sixth time that a Powerball jackpot has been won in the state and would set a new record for the largest prize ever awarded there.

Tickets for Saturday’s draw are available until 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time that day.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play with two optional add-ons: Power Play multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to ten times for an extra dollar per play; Double Play offers another chance to match numbers after the main draw for an additional dollar per play and can award up to $10 million.

Tickets are sold across 45 states as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Over half of proceeds from every ticket remain within the selling jurisdiction. Drawings take place at Florida Lottery’s studio in Tallahassee and are broadcast live as well as streamed online via https://www.powerball.com/.

Since its inception in 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has contributed more than $1.08 billion toward education funding through Legislative Lottery Scholarships—benefiting over 155,000 students who have attended college using these scholarships.
