The New Mexico State women’s track and field team completed its regular season on May 3 at the Desert Heat Classic, held at Roy P. Drachman Stadium and hosted by the University of Arizona. The Aggies achieved eight top-10 finishes in what was described as their most competitive meet of the season.

The event began with freshman Julia Nystrand leading NM State in the hammer throw, while Presley Edwards competed in the javelin. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Nia Allison finished fifth overall with a time of 10:59.52, followed closely by Jordan Torres and Murrie Dodge in sixth and seventh place.

Alesha Lane led her team in shot put against a strong field that included seven of the West region’s top-20 athletes, finishing 14th with a mark of 14.42 meters. Nystrand also recorded her second-best performance this season with a distance of 13.11 meters.

On the track, Marlee Cavitt ran the 100-meter dash in 11.56 seconds while Aja Johnson finished in 12.35 seconds. Adéla Steinsová set a new personal best in the 1500 meters at 4:28.43, which is now ranked as the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Lane also led NM State’s discus efforts by placing eleventh, while Aileen Alvarado represented her team solo in high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters (5-4¼). In other sprints, Cavitt posted another personal best—23.45 seconds—in the 200 meters for third-fastest all-time at NM State; Jaylah McDonnell also set a new personal record just shy of making it into school records.

Brooke Kelly returned to competition to finish second overall in the women’s 5000-meter race with a time of 19:39.65 after being absent since April 11.

The Aggies wrapped up their meet with their relay squad—McDonnell, Amanda Radava, Steinsová—recording their second quickest time this season (3:51.19) during the weekend’s final event.

With regular season events complete, NM State will now prepare for participation at Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning May 14.
