The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced on Mar. 10 that it is accepting public comments through Friday, March 27, on Amendment 10 to the federal fiscal year 2024–2029 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which is available online.

The STIP serves as the department’s short-term plan for federally funded and regionally significant transportation projects. The program is developed through a collaborative process that follows federal guidelines, supports national goals, and aligns with the department’s long-term vision to address the needs of travelers in New Mexico.

According to the department, the first four years of the STIP include projects with secure funding, while the final two years focus on planning and developing larger or long-term initiatives. The six-year program covers a range of multimodal transportation projects such as roads, bridges, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and transit. Funding comes from federal, state, local, and private sources. Projects included may also be of high public interest or environmental impact and can involve work in National Parks, Forests, and tribal lands.

Members of the public can access the list of projects included in Amendment 10 through an online portal. Comments can be submitted anonymously or with contact information if a response is desired. To comment on individual projects or groups of projects, users are instructed to use specific features within the portal interface.

Questions about the amendment or commenting process should be directed to Jolene Herrera, STIP Manager.
