Marketing Specialist Juan Sanchez of the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) has been recognized as the Western U.S. Agricultural Trade Association’s (WUSATA) Collaborator of the Year. The award acknowledges Sanchez’s long-term partnership with WUSATA to promote products grown in New Mexico, build international relationships, and help state agricultural producers access export markets.
“Juan’s leadership has been instrumental in elevating New Mexico agriculture on the global stage,” said Jeff Witte, New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture. “His work continues to open pathways for our producers and position New Mexico as a competitive player in international markets.”
Sanchez was recognized for his involvement in activities such as trade shows and inbound trade missions, including events held in Germany and at local pecan orchards with visiting Korean buyers.
The NMDA is a state agency connected to New Mexico State University that supports the agricultural sector through various services and divisions focused on areas such as biosecurity, food safety, pest management, marketing, and product promotion. The department also operates laboratories for testing in chemistry, seeds, metrology, and petroleum; provides diagnostic support for livestock; and maintains offices in Las Cruces, Portales, and Albuquerque. These efforts aim to assist agricultural producers by promoting sustainable practices and managing challenges like drought or invasive pests. More information about NMDA’s functions can be found on its official website.
