Mentmore man pleads guilty to federal felony assault charges

A Mentmore resident has pleaded guilty to multiple felony assault charges related to an incident involving his intimate partner. According to court records, Alery Al Reid, 26, a member of the Navajo Nation, admitted to punching, strangling, and threatening to kill Jane Doe on December 5, 2024.

Reid entered guilty pleas to two counts: assault of an intimate partner by strangling and assault of an intimate partner resulting in substantial bodily injury. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and will be subject to three years of supervised release following any incarceration.

“Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office made the announcement today.”

The case was investigated by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark A. Probasco is prosecuting the case.
