The New Mexico Department of Justice announced on May 13 that Mattheu Tracy-Thompson has pleaded guilty and been sentenced to a total of 21 years in prison for criminal sexual penetration of a minor and possession of child sexual exploitation material. The sentencing took place after two consolidated cases involving serious offenses against a minor in Bernalillo County.
This case highlights the role of the New Mexico Attorney General’s office in prosecuting crimes involving child safety. The office advances justice through civil litigation and criminal prosecutions, according to the official website.
Attorney General Raúl Torrez said, “It is shameful, tragic and fully preventable that this criminal sexual predator was released of his own recognizance only to commit another criminal sexual assault a year later. This lengthy sentence ensures that he will be locked away from children for a very long time. I’m hopeful both families now have some peace knowing Tracy-Thompson will be behind bars for decades to come.”
Tracy-Thompson was first arrested in October 2024 on charges related to possession and distribution of visual media depicting child sexual abuse. After being released by court order, he was arrested again in December 2025 following an admission that he sexually assaulted a six-year-old girl at a Christmas party in Albuquerque.
The plea agreement requires Tracy-Thompson’s incarceration at the New Mexico Department of Corrections for 21 years, followed by eight years suspended time, five years supervised probation, lifetime sex offender registration, parole ranging from five years to life, electronic monitoring, required treatment programs, and no unsupervised contact with minors.
The New Mexico Attorney General serves as the chief legal officer for the state and coordinates with local law enforcement agencies for public safety efforts across all counties while fostering trust through community outreach initiatives according to the official website.
