New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has taken swift action in response to severe flooding in Ruidoso. The governor expressed concern over the community’s recurring natural disasters, including last summer’s wildfires and floods.
Governor Lujan Grisham stated, “Ruidoso endured devastating wildfires and flooding last summer, and now catastrophic flooding is hitting this resilient community again. This crisis demands immediate action.”
In an effort to address the situation, she signed an emergency declaration request to expedite federal assistance. “Tonight, I signed an emergency declaration request to get federal response teams and repair resources on the ground immediately,” she announced.
The governor emphasized the need for federal support alongside state efforts: “New Mexico is mobilizing every resource we have, but Ruidoso needs federal support to recover from this disaster.” She noted that similar aid was provided to Texas recently and stressed that Ruidoso deserves a comparable level of urgency.
