Today, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed strong opposition to a recently passed tax bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. The governor criticized the legislation for making significant cuts to programs such as Medicaid, which are essential for many residents of New Mexico.

“This morning, Republicans in the U.S. House prioritized the ultra-wealthy over working families by passing a tax bill that makes deep cuts to vital programs that New Mexicans rely on,” said Governor Lujan Grisham. She further stated that the bill jeopardizes food benefits for children and undermines progress on clean energy while protecting tax advantages for the wealthiest and increasing the federal deficit.

Governor Lujan Grisham assured that her administration in Santa Fe would continue efforts to safeguard advancements made for all New Mexicans, particularly those most vulnerable. She acknowledged New Mexico’s congressional delegation for opposing the bill and called on Americans to urge Senate Republicans to reject it as well.

“Every American should be appalled,” she added, emphasizing her disapproval of the legislative action.
