Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has expressed strong opposition to the recently passed Republican budget bill in Congress, which she believes will negatively impact millions of Americans, including those in New Mexico. The governor criticized the bill for cutting funding for health care and child nutrition while providing tax cuts for the wealthy.

“The Republican budget bill is an abomination that abandons working families and threatens the health and well-being of New Mexicans,” Gov. Lujan Grisham stated. She emphasized that the reductions in Medicaid funding could affect rural hospitals, food assistance programs for children, and educational initiatives.

Gov. Lujan Grisham warned that this budget would lead to increased costs for essential services such as health care and electricity, describing it as “an egregious tax hike on Americans.” She also highlighted concerns about the lack of adequate hearings, debate, and transparency during its passage.

The governor assured residents that her administration is thoroughly reviewing the budget to identify potential threats to New Mexico. “I’m prepared to call a special session if necessary to protect New Mexicans from their fiscal assault,” she said.

Gov. Lujan Grisham pledged to take all possible measures to mitigate any harm resulting from this legislation: “My administration is going through this budget with a fine-tooth comb… we’re going to fight like hell to protect what matters most.”
