Today, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham addressed the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark. In a statement, she condemned the act as an “unspeakable tragedy” and emphasized that “political violence has no place in our democracy—period.”

Governor Lujan Grisham highlighted the destructive impact of such violence, stating it “shatters lives and communities, and foments even deeper divisions between Americans.” She urged unity among citizens despite political disagreements, reminding everyone that “we are Americans first, not enemies.”

Expressing solidarity with Minnesota, she offered “our deepest condolences to the victims’ families, friends and colleagues.”
