New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, in collaboration with NMexus, announced the establishment of a global business accelerator and commercialization center aimed at increasing foreign direct investment in the state. The announcement was made at the SelectUSA Investment Summit held near Washington, D.C.
The NMexus Center will provide companies from India, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia with essential resources to expand operations into New Mexico and succeed in the U.S. market. “Today’s exciting announcement is the result of my administration’s strategic efforts to recruit and retain new businesses in New Mexico,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham. She emphasized that “the NMexus Center sends an unmistakable message to the rest of the world: New Mexico is open for business.”
The first group of companies from India and Oman includes Zonap Engineering India, Alligator Automations, DCirrus, Inc., Supreme Technology, American Grain Corporation, Oliver Merino LLC, and Ardic. These companies will be based in Albuquerque’s Mesa del Sol innovation district.
The NMexus Center plans to support up to 40 companies annually and aims to create nearly 100 jobs in its first year and potentially 1,500 jobs over five years. The economic impact over this period is projected to exceed $400 million.
Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Rob Black stated that “today marks a new chapter for New Mexico” as international trade efforts begin to yield results. He noted that NMexus has created an “economic super-highway” for businesses looking to establish a presence in the U.S.
Amar Vakil, Executive Director of NMexus, highlighted Mesa del Sol’s advantages such as affordability and access to research institutions as reasons for choosing it as the location for this initiative.
Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller remarked on how the NMexus Center demonstrates their commitment to supporting company growth within Albuquerque: “We’re not waiting for opportunity—we’re creating it.”
In addition to launching the center, Gov. Lujan Grisham announced partnerships with IIT Kanpur, Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Oman Business Network, and Traders Advocacy Group of Ghana. These collaborations aim to enhance New Mexico’s role as a gateway for foreign companies entering North America.
These partnerships are expected to foster joint research between New Mexican and foreign universities on topics like cybersecurity and sustainable energy technologies while also helping foreign firms address supply chain challenges by relocating operations closer.
Karthik Maheshwaran from Telangana Chambers expressed optimism about exploring business expansion opportunities in New Mexico due its strategic positioning within the United States.
