A man from Fruitland, New Mexico, has been indicted on federal charges related to the murder of a woman. According to court documents, Timothy Begay, 38, who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, is accused of intentionally killing Jane Doe on December 9, 2024.
Begay faces a charge of second-degree murder and will be released to a halfway house under third-party supervision while awaiting trial. The date for the trial has not yet been set. If found guilty, Begay could face up to life in prison.
U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the indictment. The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Nation Police Department and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Marshall is prosecuting the case.

Officials emphasized that “an indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
