A former student doctor has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing and possessing child sexual abuse material, according to an announcement made in Albuquerque. Kevin Weiss, 29, admitted to creating images of a minor victim between June 2020 and February 2024. Additionally, he possessed illegal material involving prepubescent minors from December 2023 to March 2024.
Weiss pleaded guilty to charges of production and possession of child pornography. After serving his sentence, he will be placed under supervised release for ten years and must register as a sex offender. Federal sentences do not allow for parole.
Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Ryan G. McRae of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso announced the sentencing. “This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and CEOS, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims,” they stated.
The investigation involved the Albuquerque Police Department with support from Homeland Security Investigations, New Mexico State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Jaymie L. Roybal and Meg Tomlinson prosecuted the case.
